Everyone at CRW is aware of the Roadrunner Traffic management and scheduling system that was recently introduced to implement the up-grading of the business.
Technology marches on and the next phase involving the introduction of 'in cab' systems is now being rolled out from West Thurrock, Llanwern and soon Middleton following extensive testing and trials.
The Fleetwood 'in cab' technology is a web based order management and communication system which utilises GPRS and GPS to provide a Mobile Network Terminal in the vehicle to display and give job data, messaging and mobile phone services. Linked to the Roadrunner system it means that traffic managers and schedulers can provide accurate job details direct to the driver. Via a simple touchscreen terminal the driver can return up to date information on delivery times, load weights and electronic customer POD signatures to automatically update the Roadrunner job data.
The system has been thoroughly tested and trialled at West Thurrock by Keith Richens, Brian Webster, Peter lock and Kevin Bateman. Following a short training session they all found the system easy to use and Andrew Smith wants to thank them all for their enthusiastic involvement not to mention their patience.
The new in cab system will provide benefits for all involved -
With all this rampant technology it is inevitable that there will be a
downside for the driver and, as Andrew Smith points out, "as yet
no one has managed to receive Sky sport on the 'in cab' screen!"
